Pier finalist for prestigious global PR award

Much excitement! Our work for Affinity Water has been recognised in the prestigious The Drum Awards for PR.

Pier, has been shortlisted for a global award at The Drum Awards for PR! Pier has placed in the ‘Best Event, Stunt or Promotional Activation’ award category for its work last year on Affinity Water’s landmark water-saving campaign, SOS: Save Our Streams.

Ipswich-based Pier created ‘Stand-up for Our Streams’; a live comedy gig headlined by Sandi Toksvig IN a chalk stream. The event was staged to encourage households to waste less water and protect rare and endangered chalk streams. As the official launch pad for the campaign, Pier, along with a stellar line-up of agencies, went on to deliver the UK’s largest water-saving effort to date, which continues to see over 20 million litres of water saved every day.

Run by leading marketing title The Drum, the global awards recognise the very best in PR and communications.

The team at Pier responsible for the work include Managing Director Amy Bendall, Account Director Becky Whiting and Senior Account Manager Caroline Tilley. Amy commented: “Putting Sandi Toksvig in a stream was definitely a career highlight for us all. Despite torrential weather on the day, and working around the Covid restrictions at the time, Stand-up for Our Streams became everything we hoped when we first came up with the idea. We are incredibly grateful too to our plucky comedians who were happy to don their wellies and really embrace our creative vision.

“It feels incredible to be shortlisted alongside some strong contenders from our peers and have our work recognised on the global stage. I am really proud of us all.”

Pier’s work on this campaign has already been recognised earlier this year when the agency was shortlisted at the PRMoment Awards and the PRCA Dare Awards. The campaign has also scooped other awards in marketing and in June won Water Efficiency Project of the Year at the Water Industry Awards.

Jane Bellard, who led the SOS: Save Our Streams campaign in 2021 for Affinity Water, commented: “Pier’s team worked tirelessly throughout the launch of Affinity Water’s SOS: Save Our Streams campaign, and their passion for the cause was clear. It is always a pleasure working with their team, and the enthusiasm they bring, and the tenacity even with a very tricky brief is admirable.”

Pier was set-up in 2008 by CEO Kate Bowden Smith and specialises in providing a suite of communications services to the food & beverage and renewable energy industries. Clients include Del Monte®, RWE, Richmond Sausages and British Solar Renewables.

Pier also picked-up High-Growth Business of the Year at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Awards in the East of England earlier this year, winning 23 new clients and increasing revenue by 116% over a period of two years.

Stand-up for Our Streams was conceived by Pier for Affinity Water, and was brought to life with events agency Hopper Events, comedy producers Mighty Bunny and social creative agency, That Lot. SOS: Save Our Streams was created by purpose consultancy Revolt.

Winners for The Drum Awards for PR will be announced in December.
